Frequently asked questions by PKA residents
Do I need a permit to erect a fence?
Yes, a permit is required by the Town of PKS; the specific requirements are listed in PKS Ordinance, Sec.10-3. PKA has a maximum height limit of five feet on all fencing, and plans must be submitted to the PKA Architectural Control Committee for review and approval (PKA Article V, Sec. 3).
Can I have an outbuilding, storage shed or gazebo?
Possibly, if it is attached to the principal structure per the Town's ordinances and PKA approval (Article V, Sec. 7).
Can I put a boat on an unimproved lot?
You may keep your boat only on a lot where there is a single-family dwelling (Article V, Sec.7).
Do I need approval for a boat dock?
Docks must comply with both PKA and Town regulations and the Division of Coastal Management (CAMA) as to placement of dock and size (Article V, Sec. 9). Plans must be submitted to the Town and to the Pine Knoll Association's Architectural Control Committee.
Can "Park Areas" be reserved for private parties?
Brock Basin (picnic area) can be reserved by members for special events. Please contact the Association Administrator for reservations.
Who do I contact to discuss marina facilities and waterway regulations?

Who do I contact to obtain a gate card and auto decal?

Can I remove trees from my property?
If a tree is more than 3 ½ inches in diameter, a permit from the Town of Pine Knoll Shores is required for removal.
Is there a limit to the number of animals I can have?
The Town code indicates a maximum of three dogs per dwelling.
Must house plans, additions and/or changes (such as decks, screened in porches, bonus rooms, docks, fences, etc.) be reviewed and approved by the PKA Architectural Control Committee?
They must be approved by the Town and the PKA Architectural Control Committee (Article IV & V).
Do I need a sign by the street showing my address?
Yes. Please call the Town of PKS for requirements.
Is there a speed limit for boats traveling within the PKS canal waterways?
The definition of NO WAKE is to use the slowest forward speed that still allows you to maintain navigational control of your vessel. Consider 1000-1200 rpm's of less as a good measure of speed.
